Project Launch & Community Engagement Success
We're thrilled to announce the official launch of Tunisia Green Future! Over the past two weeks, we've conducted community engagement sessions across all 5 target governorates. The response has been overwhelming - over 500 community members attended our information sessions. Key highlights: - 523 community members surveyed - 210 young farmers expressed interest in training - 12 hectares of land secured through partnerships with local authorities - Soil analysis completed across all sites - results are promising! Special thanks to our partners at FAO Tunisia and GIZ for their technical support during the assessment phase.
First Training Cohort - Week 2 Progress
Our first cohort of 67 young farmers has completed their second week of training. The program covers organic farming fundamentals, soil science, and sustainable irrigation. This week we focused on: - Soil preparation techniques for organic farming - Composting methods using locally available materials - Introduction to drip irrigation systems Participant engagement has been excellent, with an average attendance rate of 94%. Three participants have already started experimenting with composting on their family plots!
Training Week 4 - Practical Field Sessions Begin
Week 4 marks the transition from classroom to field! Our trainees spent 3 full days in the Jendouba community garden practicing: - Raised bed construction for organic vegetables - Companion planting techniques - Organic pest management using neem oil and garlic spray - Soil pH testing and amendment The hands-on sessions have been incredibly energizing. Several participants mentioned this was their first time learning systematic agricultural methods despite growing up in farming families. The generational knowledge transfer happening is beautiful to witness.
